What Courage Such a Thing Takes
The Life of Mary De Garis
Forty-two community histories from across Victoria have been shortlisted for the 2019 Victorian Community History Awards and Victorian Premier’s History Award.
These works range from publications, exhibitions, websites and an app, and tell the stories of regional towns and streets, businesses and buildings as well as significant Victorians like Carlo Catani, Mary De Garis and Mirka and Georges Mora. The shortlisted works also tell some of the sadder stories of Victoria’s history including the 2009 Victorian bushfires and fallen WWI soldiers.
From these shortlisted historical works, one Victorian Premier’s History Award recipient and ten Victorian Community History category winners will be chosen sharing in a prize pool of $19,500. Winners will be announced during History Week on the 14th of October at a ceremony at the Arts Centre in Melbourne.
